Casa Vacanze Il Corno is located in Radda in Chianti, on the top of a hill halfway between Florence and Siena along the SP 112 Volpaia. Just two kilometers from Volpaia and 5 kilometers from Radda in Chianti on top of a hill surrounded by the vineyards of the Chianti Classico is Casa Vacanze Il Corno, where they are welcomed by the courtesy of the properties or by one of his family members.
Casa Vacanze Il Corno is a historic Tuscan farmhouse.
The oldest part of the building dates back to the Middle Ages. During the restructuring, in fact, they were brought back to the light of the loopholes that suggest that it was a lookout tower of the XII century ... This is also motivated by the privileged position in which it is located: on top of a hill with a 360 degree view.
Around, around 1500, when in the countryside buildings to house the farmer's and peasant families began to be built, the medieval lookout tower was incorporated into the new sixteenth-century building. This dwelling still presents all the characteristics of the classic Chianti farmhouse: covered in stone, developed on two floors, with the roof covered by the typical brick tiles. The building complex (home and outbuildings) was able to meet all the needs related to the various farming, cultivation and operations following the harvesting of agricultural products.
Next to the house were the spaces for the chicken coop, the cattle shed and the pigsty.
The dovecote is present, a classic tower resting on the roof of the house: a place where, in addition to raising pigeons to eat, colombina was formed, one of the most sought after fertilizers of the past.
Inside the complex of "Il Corno" is still present the old oven where the housewives used to bake bread.
At Il Corno, lived a peasant family until the 70s, until the phenomenon of urbanization led to a gradual depopulation of the countryside, bringing the building to a progressive degradation.
In the second half of the last century, a phenomenon of rediscovery and enhancement of the rural houses of Chianti began, thanks to many British and German citizens who invested their capital for the recovery of many abandoned farmhouses.
In 1982 the Pianigiani Family together with two other families bought the whole complex and after years of work, sacrifices and great satisfactions they succeeded in the great enterprise of finishing the restructuring.
Currently, in the complex there are seven apartments of which three are owned by our family.
Thanks to the generosity of Babbo Vasco and his mother Adriana, who gave full availability of the apartments to their two daughters Rossana and Sabrina, today it is possible to spend a wonderful holiday among the vineyards of the hills and savor ancient flavors.
The view that can be admired from the top of the hill is breathtaking: we see Volpaia, the Pieve di S. Maria Novella, the town of Radda in Chianti and the vineyards and farmhouses of some of the most important agricultural companies in the world.
It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and renowned areas of Tuscany.
